A grand total of 298 entries have been received by the Torrevieja International Poetry competition.81 of these entries have been from foreign poets.There were none from the UK,although 15 came from the USA.Others came from Germany,Switzerland,Peru,Chile,Venezuela,Mexico,Japan,Belgium,Costa Rica,Colombia and Israel.This competition is one of the most prestigious in Spain with a prize of 18,000 euros.
It is organised by a major national publisher Plaza and Janes which sells Spanish translations of best selling English language novels,including authors such as Marian Keyes.
Plaza and Janes also runs Torrevieja’s National Novel Competition which is on an equally grand scale.The top ten prizewinners in the competition have been selected but the list will not be announced until November 20.
