It happened in 1974 ,when a Javea priest who was living in Chile,disappeared and has never been seen again.Now a court in santiago de Chile has jailed four retired soldiers for the kidnapping of the priest who was born in Javea.Antonio Llido Mengual disappeared five years after arriving in Chile,during the dictatorship of Pinochet.
He was held in a concentration camp by members of the National Intelligence Direction,due to the fact that he was practising as a priest but more importantly he was a member of the Revolutionary Left Movement.His remains have never been discovered.
Llido was 37 at the time of his disappearance.He ws subjected to torture along with many others who disappeared at this time.These soldiers who were responsible for the kidnap will be sentensed by the court and the judge has ordered the State of Chile to pay compensation of almost 200,000 US dollars to the sister of the priest.
