Denia Beach For Els Poblets?

L’Almadrava beach in Denia is now within the sights of the Els Poblets council. They are going to formally initiate proceedings to annexe the beach from denia on the Costa Blanca. The mayor feels that the borders between the two towns are not clear enough and this move would define them more clearly.

The Els Poblets mayor wants the regional government to draw up a new boundry between the mouth of the River Girona and Cami de la Mar.This would give Els Poblets a sea boundry and allow Denia to claim the right side of the river.

This is not the first time that Els Poblets has attempted to get its hands on L’Almadrava beach. They did so previously in 1995.This resulted in a meeting between the two parties and a resolve to ask a ruling from the National Geographic Institute. The Institute went in favour of changing the boundry in 1999 ,Els Poblets complied and Denia did not.

The latest move has been rejected by Denia council.Denia council is in the process of trying to modernise the Les Marines area of the town and to regenerate the beaches there. This started in 2005 but was halted because it was damaging the Poseidonia grass beds in the sea.
