The hospital in Torrevieja has just celebrated its third birthday and has published a list of results showing its performance levels.
Since it opened in October 2006 4,252 babies have been born there and 53,000 operations have been carried out.Of those who have operations,59% of them are at home again within hours of the operation being completed.There are no waiting lists because they utilise the theatres so efficiently.
The software used by the nursing management,Florence,was developed by hospital staff .It records the medical history of all patients and is available for the doctors who are working in the medical centres and hospitals ,which saves on time.
There is also a text message information service for waiting times in emergency departments and this is an idea now being used in other Spanish hospitals.Overall the management of the hospital is very proud of what it has achieved so far but they are realistic enough to know that there are still things to be done.
