The new British Ambassador to Spain is Giles Paxman,he is a 57 year old Oxford graduate, married with three children. He has already taken up his post as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Spain. He has been in a similar post in Mexico for 4 years where he has been working across the full range of the political, economic and commercial stratas.
This is an interesting time as the Spanish are preparing to take on the mantle of the European Presidency of the EU.This begins in January 2010.Mr Paxman has worked in European affairs for many years both in Brussels and London. He has said how important it is for both Spain and the UK to improve their economic status.
Spain and the UK work closely in the UN,NATO and the EU and now they are also closely linked via the G20 meetings.Mr Paxman wants to build on the close ties which already exist. As he stated in his speech, almost 17 million Brits visit Spain each year and almost a million live in Spain either full time or for part of the year.
Mr Paxman acknowledged the fact that Spain has changed amazingly over the last 4 decades and he is looking forward to getting to know the new Spain and its people.
