Climate change is nothing new and in Valencia region experts are predicting that there could be dire consequences unless something is done about it fairly quickly. They predict that the sea level will rise by one metre over the next 100 years. This could wipe out almost 4000 hectares of land and half of the land would be residential.
These experts are telling the authorities to listen to the environmental lobby and to do something about it soon.In 2006 a coastal plan was drawn up but it was also quickly placed where it could not be used.It is now being resurrected once again and they are being told to look at all of the potential problems and to seek solutions.
Many of the natural barriers to the sea have been destroyed ,such as sand dunes. In their place there are man made structures which have been built to develop tourism in the region. These uncontrolled developments of beach front areas are one of the biggest problems. If nothing is done then thousands of people could be affected.
