The Spanish Prime Minister Jose Zapatero has commented on the status of Spanish troops serving in Lebanon and said that they are achieving security and stability in the region.He was speaking on Friday at the end of his first tour of the Middle East which involved visits to Israel,Syria,Jordon and Palestine.
His last visit was to the military base in the south of Lebanon .The Spanish soldiers serving there are part of the United Nations Interim in Lebanon( UNIFIL)which was formed after the 2006 Israeli war with Hezbollah.Spain takes command there in February.
The Prime Minister carried with him a message of support from King Juan Carlos .He also reaffirmed his support that they would bring future peace and stability to the region.He also layed a wreath in memory of those soldiers who have lost their lives in the conflict .Spain plans to increase the number of soldiers in the area by 200 next year bringing the number to 1,100.
