The municipal budget for Torrevieja for 2010 amounts to almost 91 million euros. It is hoped that it will be approved by the council this week. This would mean that Torrevieja is the first town in the country to approve its budget for next year.
The mayor has described the budget as austere, responsible ,serious and rigorous. All of these go along with the present economic crisis.Social spending would be maintained and would make up 70% of the total budget. They have to bear in mind that the state funding is down by 12% from 2009.All municipal taxes are to be frozen as would be all council and municipal workers salaries. The IBI property tax is to drop from 0.585% to 0.524%,although opposition parties have said that this is not the case.
In 2010 the Joaquin Chapaprieta municipal culture institute is due to receive 2.5 million euros and spend 2 million euros ,while the administration of the Habaneras yPolifonia should break even on its increased budget of 1,350,000 euros.
