It has been decided in Elche near Alicante that those who carry out acts of vandalism will not receive fines but community service. At the moment almost two million euros a year is spent in repairing damage caused by vandals. It is reasonable to ask why the tax payer should pay. Those convicted of vandalism will now have to clean off graffiti, mend bins, mend park benches and clean gardens.
