There was a tragedy last week on the Acantilado de los Gigantes beach on the island of Tenerife ( Canary Islands).A rock slide buried two women while they were enjoying the sunshine on the beach.One of them was a 54 year old British woman and the other a 34 year old local lady.
Both victims had been enjoying the sun when the rocks crashed down on them and buried them in the rubble.The emergency services searched the 5m high rubble throughout the night in an attempt to save lives and also find bodies.There were fears that there were other victims but no bodies were found.
There had been a smaller rock slide three weeks ago and that part of the beach had been closed.A lifeguard had warned people of the danger.However the warnings were not taken any notice of and the cordoned area was ignored.
