A boat was discovered off the coast of Cartagena last week by coastguards.Two immigrants were found dead in the boat.Another two were found in the boat with their dead friends and they are now in hospital.
The coastguards discovered the boat off the south eastern coast of Cartagena after a search which a French tanker instigated when they spotted the boat 60 miles off shore.
The surviving men are in a serious conditionsuffering from dehydration and hypothermia.They were taken to hospital in Santa Maria del Rosell.It is thought that the immigrants were Algerian and were seeking refuge in Spain.
A central government official is said to have commented that the boat could have gone off course and that the men had run out of provisions and had resorted to drinking sea water.
These men have to be so desperate to make this crossing in dangerous waters in small boats.For most people it is difficult to understand what drives them to do what they do.
