Spanish News-Perceptions of Spain

The Spanish newspaper El Mundo carried out a survey with its readers asking them if Spain was a better place to live than it was 20 years ago.The response was from 27,205 readers and 39% thought that it was better now while 61% thought that it was worse now.

However Spain seems to be full of quite happy people. In yet another investigation taken by several universities ,Spain is a country where people live longer than the norm and are happier. In fact they came 16th out of 142 countries surveyed.Costa Rica came top of the list with Iceland and Denmark in second and third places respectively.

In many European countries there are young people who have never worked .This applies especially to those between the ages of 20 and 29.They are not studying ,not actively seeking employment or actually working. It has been estimated that in Spain there are over half a million in such a situation. Most of them live with their parents.

The sale of properties to foreigners in Spain is down by 83%.This information has come from the President of the Federation of Construction Companies  in the Valencia region.Last year only 702 houses were sold to foreigners. In 2006 more than 4000 were sold.It is thought that this has been brought about by the recession in the UK and of course the fall in the value of sterling. Many Brits are trying to sell their properties on the Costa Blanca. The publicity about corruption and urban abuses has also affected the market.
