Just off the coast of the Balearic island of Menorca a fisherman has discovered the remains of a sunken 17th or 18th century galleon. The Argo Maris foundation is investigating the find .It is about 60 metres down and covers a radius of about 40 metres. From what they have already observed it is thought to be a frigate or a war galleon. An initial report has been presented to the Culture and Heritage department of the Council of Menorca.
The report was supported by about 2000 photographs of the wreck. They show 17 iron cannons, all of which are about 2 metres in length, there are four large anchors ,two at the bow and two at the stern. This particular wreck has never been documented and could be of great historical interest. All investigations are being done with precision underwater robotic equipment.
