A village outside Granada on the Costa Tropical was the epicentre of an earthquake last week.It measured 3.7 on the Richter Scale,which is quite high when it is considered that there was no damage and no injuries.
The village of Ventas de Huelmas,about 30 kilometres outside Granada, was the centre for the quake in the early morning.The tremor was felt in Granada and in Agron ,Cacin,Santa Crez de Comercio, Jayena and Alhama de Granada.
Earth tremors are common in this region of Spain but normally they are barely felt.On this occasion it was felt but if there was damage to property then it was minor,possibly loosened tiles and the odd broken window.
Insurance companies do cover properties for earthquake damage but generally the excess is so high that few claims are made as they have to be paid out of your own pocket.
