Mojacar At Halloween

Halloween in Spain is not an event. However November the 1st is a very important event on the calendar as it is All Saints Day when the dead are remembered by the living. In Mojacar on the Costa Almeria the expats have been attempting to change the perceptions of the Spanish with their celebrations of Halloween. The promenade was alive with fancy dress of every description, from the ghoulish to the bizarre.Everyone was having a good time and certain bars were encouraging the raising of revenue for various charities.

Sadly this 31st of October celebration is beginning to have a negative expression.Trick and treating is not just for small children anymore and consequently people are becomng much more wary of opening their doors to those who are more adult and dresses in costumes which can appear quite threatening.

In fact in Almeria some of these older element did become more aggressive and one expat couple had eggs thrown at their car and someone was hit on the side of the head with an egg. This is the “not so much fun” aspect of the event ,often caused by too much alcohol.
