Walking in the mountains is always hazardous but last week in the Spanish Pyrenees two sisters died of exposure to the elements.
The 43 and 45 year old sisters were from Barcelona and they were walking in the mountains with three other friends.They became lost and the weather became very bad while they were descending the mountain.They lost their way in the heavy snowfall and strong winds.They made a decision to split up and gave a call to the emergency services about their plight.The emergency teams found the first two victims on Saturday night and discovered the other two women and the man on Sunday.The injured were taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia .
It is never easy to make judgements about such expeditions and one assumes that these five were all experienced walkers who were unfortunate enough to be hit by unusually bad weather for the time of the year.
