The Autonomic Falconry Championship of the Valencian Community took place in Pilar de la Horadada near the Murcia border last week.It is the second time that it has been held here and it is hoped that it might become an annual event.
The competition was organised by El Temple Falconry Group with the help of the Valencian Territorial Hunting Federation and the Pilar de la Horadada Town Hall.
The birds could be seen flying in the area between the town and Las Villas Higuericas at the weekend.Many people came to view these wonderful birds in action.The weekend was as much a social occasion as a competition and the prizes were all awarded on the Sunday.
It is now hoped that falconry will once again become a traditional sport in the region.Not only will it help to keep the breeds of bird in circulation but it is also a wonderful spectacle for members of the public.
