More than 2 cubic metres of rubbish was collected by 200 volunteers at the Salinas in Calpe last week.The environment councillor and the beach councillor also helped the members of the public who volunteered.
The event was organised by the council’s environment department,members of the public,including several expats took part.In fact there were more than 200 volunteers and several local diving centres provided people to clean up the bed of the lake.Around 40 people helped to clean around the Salinas.They even found an old motor- bike which had been dumped there.
It is amazing what can be achieved by volunteers who get themselves organised and who enjoy the experience of socialising while doing something worthwhile at the same time.Doing this type of work would be a very good way of occupying young and not so young offenders too.
