As with most towns Orihuela has its car parking problems.Now the Mayor has announced the creating of a new underground car park near the train station.It will take 600 cars.This will be part of a 15 million euro project which aims to turn Avenida de la Vega into a main thoroughfare.This will take pressure away from Avenida Teodomiro.
As so many people live along Avenido de la Vega they will be asked for their opinions about this project as it will affect them greatly.The scheme is to be presented to a full council meeting next month.The work will then be put out to tender.
It is estimated that it will take two years to complete the work.The company that builds the car park will then run it for 40 years.Let us hope that they have done their homework and looked at the same process in Javea ,which has been a disaster.The company charges to much for the parking and people will vote with their feet and not use them.
