The Spanish Minister of Health has announced a change in the law with regard to organ transplants in Spain.Spain is drafting a new law with regard to human organ trafficking.Anyone who receives an organ from such a deal and anyone who is involved with promoting such a deal will face six to twelve years in prison.
Specifically those who promote,advertise ,encourage or facilitate the procurement of human organs are the ones to be targeted by the law.If it can be proved that the recipient knew of the origins of the donor organ then they to will be subject to exactly the same penalty,which will be subject to the level of their involvement in obtaining the organ.
When there is criminal liability then the premises of those carrying out such transactions will be closed down from two to five years.The Minister is hoping that this will punish the whole chain of those who are involved in this illegal activity.
Within the legal Spanish health system organ transplants and donations increased by 6% during the first nine months of the year.
