Will it be Valencia for the 2010 America’s Cup? Societe Nautique de Geneve (SNG) cannot now hold the America’s Cup 2010 in Ras Al Khaimah,United Arab Emirates.SNG is the yacht club representing the Cup Defender Alinghi had announced the Emirates as the venue several months ago and have already transported their boat there and started to train.However the New York Supreme Court has ruled that the race cannot be held there.

The challenger BMW/Oracle objected in court.The judge has ruled that the race must either take place in the southern hemisphere or in Valencia .This was the venue for the last America’s Cup.

SNG is “disappointed” because they thought that it could be Valencia or “any other location”.However the race wherever it takes place will be conducted under SNG rules as ruled in a previous court order.

Golden Gate Yacht Club represents BMW/Oracle and they are ‘pleased ” with the ruling.It appears that the judge will rule laster on two additional issues including SNG’s selection of umpires.It seems that SNG have given the impression that they can change the rules for the America’s Cup at any time and select all of the umpires.This is what has to be resolved in court.
