It appears that there was an outbreak of Hepatitis C at Alicante General Hospital.A report from the Preventitive Medicine Epidemiology Unit has shown that it affected 7 people.The outbreak was in Haematology in 2007.One of those affected died a year after contracting the disease.The family of this person understandably demanded an explanation and an investigation.
It has been concluded that the outbreak more than likely began in another patient and it has ruled out that the patients received infected blood via transfusions.They think that they infected each other either directly or indirectly.None of them underwent the same procedures in the hospital and they came from different areas throughout the province.The hospital has reinforced their measures to protect patients and there were no more cases until October 2008.
