Going in to a hospital for an operation is never something to look forward too. However the hospital in Denia has proved to be as good as most hospitals in the State sector gets.Denia is a small town on the Costa Blanca and they have just acquired a new hospital on the peripheri of the town in the village of La Xara.Getting to the hospital is easy as it is just off the N-332 and very near the AP-7.Parking could be better but there is an underground carpark if only they would make it cheap enough to use .If you are staying overnight then it can become an extremely expensive occupation.
The hospital treatment for my husband has been excellent. He was given his own room( this was not special) and bathroom. The room is large and has a wonderful bed which can be turned and twisted to suit both the patient and the staff. In the corner was a bedsetee and in another a reclining chair.Family are expected to stay! They do the fetching and carrying for the patient. They call the nurses when they are required.
However the nursing staff have their own agenda which they follow meticulously. The assistant nurses ,the catering staff and the cleaning staff are all doing their jobs efficiently and well. This is a State hospital run by a private company. The staff are not so happy because they all have new contracts and it appears are not being paid as much. That is hearsay but was said by a member of staff.
The operation was carried out on my husband and the nursing care post operation has been of a very high standard.I think that the fact that I have a smattering of Spanish has helped and “oiled the wheels ” so to speak.I would like to think that it would have been the same if this had not been the case .You discover that many of the staff do speak some English–once they know that you are attempting their language. So far so good. There was apprehension but our fears were not necessary and so far this has been as good an experience as any hospital stay can be.
