A 1950’s salt boat has been acquired by the Sea and Salt museum in Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. This is a very new attraction for the museum.Torrevieja is famous for having two of the largest salt lakes in Europe. The type of boat which has just been acquired by the museum was used on the lakes 50 years ago and has just been restored to its former glory.Students from a local carpentry workshop have done the job.The boat has a flat bottom and a paddle wheel to navigate the lakes.
This type of boat produces no pollution as it is powered by humans. They are painted in vivid colours to enable them to be visible when out on the lake. The museum could be described as “floating” as all of the exhibits are floating on the Marina Salinas in Torrevieja. One of the exhibits is a submarine which was presented to the museum by the Ministry of Defence. There are also many other exhibits such as torpedoes, mines ,coasta guard vessels and the like.During the winter it is all open from Wednesday to Sunday morning.
