A food bank collection took place in Alicante last week. The food bank in Alicante started 25 years ago and it provides essential foods for families that are struggling economically. The food bank has been stretched to the point where it is empty and consequently it needed replenishing.
Carrefour stores in Benidorm and San Juan took part and the idea was for shoppers to purchase just one or two items more and to donate these items to the food bank. The stores were then going to double the amount of food kilo for kilo.
The foods collected were then distributed between hundreds of disadvantaged families .Over the two days more than 40 trolleys were filled with food .Some of the food collected will also be donated to EMAUS homes as well as other organisations such as Caritas,a charity which feeds families in Alicante Province.
