The Mayor of Torrevieja has been under investigation because of the sale of some rural land which allowed him to accrue a profit of 5 million euros.A judge has now said that unless there is evidence that a crime has been committed then the investigation must stop.
The case goes back to 2005 when the Mayor bought land for 180,000 euros and then went on to sell it to a firm of builders for 5 million.He has been accused of using privileged information and influence peddling.
The Valencia court has agreed that there is a huge difference between the purchase price and the selling price and that the mayor and his wife had made a huge profit.What is missing is the evidence to prove that there was any criminal intent.Everything which has been said so far is only conjecture .There is no proof that there was access to privileged information.
The Green Party is now taking up the cause as they feel the issues have not been resolved .Consequently they are going to present a personal complaint in the case in order to give it more impetus.It has been said that there are still many questions to be answered and therefore the case should not be shelved until these have been resolved.
