On December 10 the members of a protest group PUMA22 will protest about the Valencia regions decision to stop free medical treatment for EU citizens who have retired early.They will march to the Alicante Consulate.They want the Valencia government to reverse their decision.Many early retirees came to live in this region because of the free health care.The cost of the new system( 270 euros a quarter) is prohibitive to many people according to a spokesperson for the group.For those who are unable to pay there is now no healthcare other than private care.You either pay as you go or you take out private medical insurance.
The Valencia government idea is certainly a much better cost than private insurance and they ask no questions about previous medical conditions either.Before the march in December the group representitives have been lobbying the British Embassy in Madrid and have been asking for a meeting with the Valencian authorities so that they can put their points of view.It looks as though that meeting will be convened.
