The CAM bank and the provincial government have started a tree planting scheme on the Costa Blanca.The aim is to plant around 4000 examples of native species by the beginning of December.More than 1500 people will be involved on a voluntary basis .
The trees and shrubs will be planted in Villajoyosa,Jijona,Guardamar del Segura,Torrevieja,Los Montesinos,Canada and Santa Pola.The head of the environmental department has said that the programme is basically about education and ensuring a greater sensitivity of the public to the environment.
Alongside the planting programme there will be workshops for over 5000 school childrn.They will show the children the differences between the different species why they are endangered and just what we can do to ensure that the environment is well cared for.
Since 2004 over 45,000 trees have been planted and over 13,000 people have taken part in the programme.In Torrevieja they have planted carob trees,fan palms,oaks and grasses .In Los Montesinos the plants have been rosemary,thymes,lavenders and junipers ,creating a garden of aromatic plants.,
