The police are in the process of arresting twelve people with regard to a sports drug taking ring.The people include chemists and doctors and possibly sporting stars too.The arrests were made in Valencia,Barcelona,Murcia and Granada.
Police seized samples of a banned blood booster drug EPO and also human growth hormones.The seizures were made in private homes,chemist shops and also the private surgery of the sports doctor Walter Viru in Valencia.
A Guardia Civil source has also indicated that it is possible that a Spanish Olympic athlete is also involved in the ring but he has not been arrested to date.Paquillo Fernandez is one of the top walkers he has won medals in the Olympic games ,the European Championships and the World Championships.
The athlete has denied that he even knows the doctor and has said that he is not involved in the affair.He also says that as he is not involved then he has no worries about a police investigation.Dr Viru has had previous reports against him for providing performance enhancing drugs to athletes.However in 2005 the case was dismissed.
