A member of the Spanish Guardia Civil in northern Spain is thought to have made up a story about coming upon a group of ETA terrorists in the middle of the night and having a shootout with them.The Spanish Minister of the Interior has recently announced that investigations seem to show that the Guardia Civil officer is ,for some reason,lying.
Investigations are continuing into the incident but they are almost certain that there were no terrorists involved.The officer had said that the men escaped but that they shot him in the arm as they left and also in the chest,but his bullet proof vest saved him.
As the police gathered more and more evidence it seemed less and less likely that this is what happened.He did have a flesh wound in the arm but there was no bruising to the chest ,which would be expected even through a bullet proof vest.The only spent ammunition to be discovered in the vicinity were belonging to the Guardia Civil and not ETA.
