The first weekend in December in Denia has become medieval market weekend. This year it ends on December 8 which just happens to be the “La Inmaculada” and a national holiday. The narrow streets of the old town will be decorated to give the atmosphere of the old markets, with colourful market stalls, minstrels, stiltwalkers and jugglers. It is hoped that there will be about 70 stalls with work done by genuine craftspeople.Usually there is everything from ceramics to leatherwork plus jewellery ,spap, silk wear and hand made toys. Many of the artisans will be making things at their stalls and will take orders on the day.
Naturally food plays an important part in all of this and many stalls will be providing home-made foods of every type.Cheeses and sausages, preserves, herbs and breads will all be vying with the public for attention.
Most of the stallholders will be in medieval costume plus many others who are getting into the spirit of the age to provide atmosphere. On the last day the market is only open in the morning .
