El Altet airport in Alicante was the scene of an air crash simulation last week.Almost 200 people took part in what is an essential part of airport security. It was carried out to evaluate the emergency procedures at the airport.
There were no hitches or glitches with the emergency routines but thwe authorities will now sit down and analyse the data to look at measures they can take to improve on what they are already doing.Where necessary they will bring in changes.
The Director of the airport has said that such simulations are normally carried out every two years to test the efficiency of all of the emergency services.Last week the exercise simulated an Airbus colliding with a flock of seagulls shortly after take-off,forcing it to crash and burst into flames .It had 62 passengers on board and five crew members. In less than two hours emergency services had attended to all of the injured and had transported them to hospital. For the sake of reality seven people were deemed to be dead and 20 were seriously injured.
