In 1998 the World Health Organisation declared December 1 “World Aids Day”.Schools across the Costa Blanca took part in a number of events which highlighted the still worrying disease.
In Alfaz del Pi the secondary school was given the opportunity to find out about HIV and Aids via an information desk set up at the school. The information desk provided information via pamphlets and discussion. The very fact that there are 41 million people suffering from the disease across the world is a startling enough statistic.
Students were issued with the now iconic red bow to weat, plus pamphlets and condoms.Keeping this disease at the forefront is so important as the attitude often is that it is a disease picked up by “other people”.
