The Valencia artist Joaquin Sorolla has just had one of his paintings sold at Sotheby’s in London for 1.8 million euros.The Auction House has just held a Spanish arts auction over last weekend and this painting was one of the most successful sales.”Boats on a Beach” was painted in 1909 and was later exhibited in the Hispanic Society of the United States.The price at the auction was more than half a million euros more than was expected.
The Valencia Christmas lights will stay on for longer this year.Just for an hour longer ,from 6pm until 1am each day.The lights are using low electricity consumption bulbs.They were officially switched on last Wednesday.
Last week in Batera ,outside the NATO base there,a demonstration was held to protest against the war in Afghanistan.The protest was asking for all troops to be withdrawn and stating that the mission was a complete failure.The demonstration was peaceful.
