After January 1st all electricity bills in Spain will be forced to go up.The Spanish Electricity Industry Association says that bills will probably go up by 3-4% .This is an attempt to reduce the 19,000 million euro deficit in the sector.
UNESA claims that if the electricity rates had increased by this amount ten years ago then the present day hike would not have been necessary. They say that electricity might even be coming down in price at the present time.
The reason given for not doing it at that time was the fact that Spain was moving over to the euro a transaction which took until 2002.It does mean however that initial contract fees for new connections will now have to rise by a huge 18%.
Consumers can if they so choose pay much less for their electricity by just making everyone much more aware of its cost and only using what is absolutely necessary in the home.Turning off lights when they are really not required and generally being more sensible.Heat and light cost too much these days and everyone must become more frugal.
