The town council of Torrevieja has just unveiled a plan to build 1,500 houses at La Hoya next to El Chaparral urbanisation. The Municipal Plan for Protected Housing has as part of its programme a social housing scheme. This has been published on its website.
In October the regional government did give the green light to build a huge urbanisation at La Hoya .La Hoya lies between La Mata-Torrevieja natural park,San Jame hospital,El Chaparral,Jardin del Mar and the CV-905 dual carrigeway.
Valencia’s LUV land law sets out that social housing must be built as part of any new property development.Torrevieja has said that La Hoya will have 25% of its new development as social housing.According to the council the properties must be built before the end of 2011 and the infrastructure will be built next year. The area being built upon is 1.8 million square metres and of this 145,852 square metres will be for social housing. One of the objectives of this project is to create employment.
Another aspect of the project is an ecological one and a judicial appeal has been put in against the project. They are saying that the project will impact upon the natural park.More than 25,000 more people will come into the area because of the housing ,meaning that the park will be surrounded by them. They have also suggested that the River Segura water authority has not rubber stamped the availability of drinking water for such a large urbanisation.
