A woman from Torrevieja is facing a long prison sentence if the Public Prosecutor has his way.It is alleged that in 2007 the woman gave birth to a healthy child and that after the birth she placed the child in a plastic bag and dumped the body in a bin.She had never had any medical checks during the pregnancy and it is possible that she may have got away with the crime if she hadn’t had a severe vaginal haemorrhage.She needed attention at the Vega Baja hospital in Torrevieja and there the staff could tell that she had just given birth.
Her family were informed about what had happened and her mother’s partner later found the body of the baby in the bag.The child had died from a lack of oxygen because the umbilical cord had not been tied off after the birth.
This case says so much about society generally.It is possible that the woman was too frightened to tell anyone about the pregnancy and thought that this was a good way to make the problem go away.Many people have no compassion for babies and place no value on the life of a newborn child.It is a sad world for many people.
