Edificio Anfora in La Cala Finestrat is finally going to be demolished.Work has begun after several years of negotiations between the owners ,Finestrat council and the Ministry of Public Works Coast Department.
The Mayor announced the beginning of the demolition of what is seen as one of the worst eyesores on the Costa Blanca,at a press conference last week.Scaffolding ,ships and all of the other paraphanalia required to demolish a large building arrived the day after the Mayor made his announcement.The workmen started on the interior and they are expected to take almost five months to carry out the work.The Mayor says that the council realises that frontline properties will be inconvenienced but that this will be kept to a minimum.
The main structure will not be demolished until after Easter.The area will eventually be cleared and there will be a garden created.The building was granted a license in 1963 but the building was never completed.Recently the council purchased the property from the owner and now demolition is proceeding 46 years after it was originally constructed.
