A young man from Murcia jumped from a bridge in Alcoy last week in an attempt to escape the police.It appears that the National Police had stopped a vehicle which had aroused their suspicions.There were five people in the vehicle.Together with the local police they managed to trap the vehicle on a bridge by stopping all traffic.
The driver of the vehicle got out and tried to hide amongst the other stationary vehicles.However an eyewitness said that he thought that he had seen the man go over the pparapet of the bridge.A search of the area failed to find him.
The police then searched at the base of the bridge and discovered the 21 year old unconscious in the undergrowth.The man was taken to a local hospital but died two hours later.It appears that the van had been stolen in Murcia .Three of the occupants knew nothing of the theft but one other has been detained by the police.
