The Begian consulate in Alicante could close and Belgian expats have been protesting against the proposed closure.About 200 Belgian citizens who live in the area met in Alicante last week to show their feelings. There are over 10,000 Begians living on the Costa Blanca and the consulate dealt with people living between Granada in the south and Valencia in the north. In the summer there are at least 200,000 Begian visitors to the region.Should the consulate close then all issues would need to be taken to Barcelona.
Many of the residents have been living here for a long time and they are often elderly .Other consulates are in Tenerife and Barcelona plus the Embassy in Madrid. The Belgian consul also joined in the protest and received over 1000 signatures in protest. He will now talk with the Belgian Foreign Office to see if he can get them to change their minds.
