Partido Popular Mayors from all over the Vega Baja met in Cartagena recently to discuss the proposed 8% price rise for water which has been proposed.They all wanted to show their total disapproval of the proposal.
Present at the meeting was the Minister for the Environment and he saw the result of the vote wher 47 voted against the idea of a rise in the tariff and 15 voted in favour of the increase.
Despite this vote the increase cannot be avoided as it was approved and passed by the Spanish cabinet on November 20th.The Mayors have said that although they realised they were fighting a war which they could not win,they would continue to show their disapproval.
The PP Orihuela Mayor was quite vehement in her disapproval of a PSOE government allowing such a thing to happen.It seems from what she has said that this will not be the last increase in water costs for the Vega Baja.
