Spanish News-Pirate Taxis

During such stringent economic times the Spanish public is watching every centimo being spent.Taxis are a luxury for most people but sometmes they are a necessity and people will try to go for the cheapest fare available.

Spanish police are now going even further to clamp down on illegal taxi drivers who charge lesser tariffs than their legal counterparts.Police forces across Alicante Povince have gone all out to reduce the number of pirate vehicles. There has been a meeting between the professional taxi driver associations and the Policia Local and the Guardia Civil. The issues were discussed in depth and it was decided that anyone who was caught operating such an illegal service would be subject to a fine and would /could have their vehicle confiscated for up to a year.

The spokesperson for the association also pointed out that those who use such vehicles are taking a huge risk as they are not insured in the same way as they are with legal taxis.Another highly illegal aspect of this is the fact that legal taxis have to purchase a special license and they also have to pay their taxes. Most ‘illegals” are paid in cash which is never taxed. All legal companies want is to do their job,an honest job.
