The pre-Christmas week in Spain has not been typically Spanish weather.Residents across the country have experienced lower than normal temperatures. In fact in the north of Spain even the beaches have been covered in snow, rather than the usual seekers of the sun.
The weather has also brought with it tragedy and in the City of Asturias a homeless man was discovered dead in the street having been caught in the exceptionally low sub-zero temperatures.
The Provinces of Cantabria,Guadalajara,Asturias,Avila,Salamanca and Segovia were particularly badly affected. In Valencia some towns fell below zero too.Much of Andalucia was on yellow alert because of the forecast of high winds. An orange alert for heavy rain affected Huelva,Cadiz,Seville and Cordoba.
In Malaga 60 litres of rain per square metre fell within the space of 12 hours while winds reached up to 80 kilometres an hour. The cold spell coincides with similar cold weather across Europe and the Uk has had unusually heavy snow across the country, bringing transport systems to a halt.
