Many people along the Costa Blanca are struggling every day to make ends meet.In Calpe Caritas is feeding 300 families.The situation is similar in Altea,Teulada and Moraira.Parish churches in Benidorm are also distributing food to those who are in need.
The Councillor for Social services in Teulada has said that the situation is difficult across the coast.She feels that there are many who are just too ashamed to come forward and ask for help.They suffer in silence.The problem is widespread and this is where organisations such as the Lions and Rotary come into their own.Their fund raising helps to fill those gaps that the Social services just cannot fill.
The problem is not just about Christmas,these people have to survive every day of the week.The worry is that there are many who are suffering.Welfare officers are out in the field working and trying to identify those who require this help.There are quite literally people who are unable to afford to buy milk for their children.Until there is an upturn in the Spanish and worldwide economy it is possible that people will starve.
