The Spanish National Institute of Statistics has just released data about family spending in the Valencia region during 2008.It showed that the average spending in the region was down on what was being spend nationally. In the Valencia region spending stood at 29,464 euros and nationally it was 31,953 euros.
This was a period when many people had started to lose their jobs.It was a time when the economic crisis was just beginning to biteĀ and consequently many people started to cut back on family spending. They felt a need to reduce their family outgoings.
The data showed a breakdown of where savings were being made .There was 18% less spent on transport,11% less on hotels and restaurants,6.2% less on entertainment and 8% less on clothes and shoes.
By the end of 2009 the statistics should show a continuing downward trend in family spending. Those stats will make very interesting reading.
