Spanish News-Neighbourhood Watch

The Spanish Neighbourhood Watch scheme has gone from strength to strength in 2009.There have been new branches opened all over Spain ,new initiatives have been set up with the Policia Local and with the Guardia Civil and they have launched a new property marking scheme and they also have a new sponsor.

New branches have opened in Valencia Province and in Almeria and there have been enquiries about opening branches from as far away as Malaga.

Recently there was a good example about the esteem in which the police hold the NHW when they asked for help in locating a hit and run driver in Torrevieja. The word went out and the driver gave himself up to the police. In Torrevieja the NHW and police have launched an initiative to cut down on vandalism and petty crime in the area. The police have appointed a special officer to liase with NHW.

The new sponsors for NHW is the company Moneycorp and this new finance has also helped launch the UV property marking scheme.Using a UV marker the person’s NIE number is marked on the article.Police stations have been issued with UV lamps to be able to identify the numbers.

The organisation is always trying to promote itself ,especially in areas where they feel that there is a need. Most people who are socially aware will automatically look out for their neighbours but there are times when education is necessary and some formality is essential.
