In December 2007 an Alicante man took part in a demonstration against the constitution.He was charged with a crime against the Crown.During the event the Local Police photographed some of the banners which had been placed in the streets and took down placards,amongst which was a picture of King Juan Carlos which had been hung upside down.The man was initially charged with slander but it was reduced to failing to respect authority.The maximum sentence was a fine but the judge decided that there was not enough proof for a conviction and aquitted the man of all charges.
Another domestic violence case in Torrevieja where a man is facing 8 years in prison for the attempted strangulation of his partner.He was stopped carrying out the crime by the son of the woman,when he battered down a door.It is now being said that he stopped the attempted strangulation of his own volition.One would imagine that the door caving in might have had something to do with it .
In Calpe a 60 year old man had his home broken into by two men and a woman.He was beaten into telling the trio where he had 30,000 euros hidden.It appears that he had been duped by another woman who had purported to want to rent a house in the area.For some reason he had told her about the money.
