The last AVE viaduct link between Alicante and Villena has been finished according to the Rail Infrastructure Administrator Adif.The structure is almost 400 metres long and stretches over the A-7 motorway and Barranco de las Ovejas.

There are still some small jobs to finish and these should be completed by March,Despite this Adif still has to award the contract for the last 800 metrees of the line into Alicante,which is casting doubt over the government´s forecast date of 2012 for the arrival of the first high speed train into Alicante city.

It was in July that Madrid announced that all it had to do was sign a credit agreement for the 60 million euros needed for this last section .However nothing seems to have taken place since then.Some say that there is still plenty of margin in the 2012 deadline to allow the project to be completed.

It was originally planned that the last piece of track went into the city underground but this was deemed too expensive by the government and since that time very little has happened.
