A truck caught fire near the Villafranqueza exit on the A7 last week.Traffic was brought to a standstill as the dangerous chemicals blazed.In fact traffic was disrupted for 12 hours.Even on the other carriageway there were two crashes as drivers were distracted by the blaze.
The lorry was also towing a trailer and it suffered a puncture at 5am.The tyre puncture seems to have started the fire .Guardia Civil and fire crews were called immediately.The driver managed to bring the lorry to a halt and escaped his cab before it was engulfed in flames..The vehicle was carrying ethanol(alcohol),phosphoric acid and sodium hydroxide.
The fire crews managed to part the trailer with the toxic substances from the burning truck and proceeded to transfer the chemicals to another vehicle.It took the emergency services until 3pm to clear the road of debris and allow free flowing traffic again.
