Last week the secretary of state for Spanish tourism announced that the numbers were way down for 2009.The country did receive 52 million foreign visitors but that figure was dwn by 5 million on 2008 producing a drop going back to 2003.
This drop in figures was 8.7%,a big blow to the industry but it was softened slightly by an increase in the average amount of money spent per person, which was up by 2.1% tp 920 euros.Total spending by foreign tourists was 48 billion euros ,down by 6.8% on 2008.
These figures are directly related to the economic climate in all of those countries which make up Spain“s main source of tourism, the Uk,Germany and France. The prediction is that this coming year will be better. The best year ever for Spanish tourism was 2007 when 59 million visitors came to the country on holiday.
